Sonnen já foi diagnosticado com hipogonadismo e fazia terapia de reposição de testosterona (TRT), antes do tratamento ser banido pela NSAC. O lutador insistiu que estava confuso quanto aos novos protocolos da comissão e alegou sofrer de problemas de fertilidade, que requerem o uso do TRT.
