BIOGRAFIA DE ANDRÉ GALVÃO

André Galvão nasceu no dia 29 de Setembro de 1982 em São Paulo – Brasil. André se iniciou nas artes marciais através do Judô ainda enquanto criança. Foi através do seu irmão mais velho que Galvão conheceu o Jiu-Jitsu, uma vez que seu irmão já treinava a arte suave.

Galvão iniciou seu treinamento de Jiu-Jitsu com 16 anos com o professor Luis Carlos Dagmar, mais conhecido como “Careca”, aluno do ilustre Mestre Osvaldo Alves. Foi só no segundo ano de treinamento que ele conheceria a pessoa que se tornaria o seu verdadeiro mestre e a sua inspiração, Fernando Tererê. Dagmar acreditava que a sua academia era pequena demais para o talento de Galvão e o aconselhou a treinar com Tererê que era um excelente professor e tinha outros lutadores talentosos do nível de Galvão na sua academia.

Sob a orientação de Tererê o Jiu-Jitsu de André Galvão teve uma evolução enorme. Tererê era um dos principais lutadores de Jiu-Jitsu da época, campeão mundial e o melhor do seu peso na virada do século. Galvão seguiu Tererê durante a sua separação da Alliance, o nascimento da Brasa e TT por um período de 3 anos. A meio de 2005 quando já chegava a hora de Galvão receber a faixa preta, uma série de acontecimentos afastaram a atenção de Tererê do Jiu-Jitsu. Em vez de receber a faixa preta do próprio Tererê que estava ausente, no dia da graduação (19 de Maio de 2005), o braço direito de Tererê e sócio da TT, Eduardo Telles, o levou até à sua cidade natal para que André tivesse a honra de ser graduado pelo seu primeiro professor, Mestre “Careca”.

Quando Tererê abandonou o esporte devido a seus conhecidos problemas pessoais, André Galvão acabou deixando a TT para se juntar à Brasa. Numa entrevista à revista Tatame em 2007, André Galvão afirmava que os seus ídolos no Jiu-Jitsu eram o seu professor, Tererê – pela sua personalidade e pela maneira como sempre conseguia empolgar o público, Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro, pelas suas incríveis raspagens e “Leozinho” Vieira por ser atlético e pelo que isso trouxe pro Jiu-Jitsu.

Galvão sempre foi um ávido competidor a ao contrário da maioria dos lutadores de Jiu-Jitsu, se dedicou a lutar em todos os campeonatos, não só os maiores – algo com que ele contava para continuar evoluindo. André venceu 4 Campeonatos Mundiais consecutivos, da Faixa Azul até à Faixa Preta (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005), conquistando peso e absoluto por dois anos seguidos, na faixa roxa e na faixa marrom (2003 e 2004). Atingiu a final em 2006 e 2007 mas não conseguiu vencer. O outro surgiu de novo em 2008. Nesse mesmo ano, André Galvão se juntou ao mundo do MMA, obtendo uma vitória finalizando Jeremiah Metcalf, um antigo lutador da Strikeforce, uma organização a que o próprio Galvão se juntaria meses depois.

Em Outubro de 2008, Galvão se associou com seu amigo Ramon Lemos para formar um novo time de Jiu-Jitsu. Os dois têm uma forte influência evangélica nas suas vidas e trouxeram as suas crenças religiosas para o tatame. Todos os seus alunos tinham uma formação semelhante e por essa razão os dois decidiram chamar o time de “Atos”, uma referência direta ao “Livro de Atos” (o quinto livro do Novo Testamento). O time tem tido um enorme sucesso nas categorias de faixa preta, com vários lutadores vencendo o Campeonato Mundial, o Pan-Americano e o Jiu-Jitsu World Pro Cup em Abu Dhabi.

Tendo se tornado lutador de MMA profissional em 2008, Galvão lutou em algumas das maiores organizações mundiais como a Dream (Japão) e Strikeforce (E.U.A.). Deixou a Strikeforce por sua própria vontade, depois de um ano de sucesso (2010) em que lutou 3 vezes, vencendo as duas primeiras e perdendo na última. Tinha planos para entrar no TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) – conforme explicou na entrevista ao BJJ Heroes em Janeiro de 2010 – mas isso acabou por não acontecer. Regressou às competições de Jiu-Jitsu a 7 de Março, vencendo os triais do World Pro Cup em San Diego na Califórnia (-83kg), vencendo também o Pan-Americano algumas semanas mais tarde – finalizando todos os seus oponentes, com exceção de Eduardo Santoro na final.

Continuamente melhorando seu nível, Galvão esteve extraordinário na edição de 2011 do ADCC, o torneio mais prestigiante do mundo, alcançando o ouro tanto no peso como no absoluto, provando por que é considerado um dos melhores do mundo.

ANDRÉ BIO GALVÃO
André Galvão was born on September 29, 1982 in São Paulo - Brazil. André started in martial arts through the Judo still as a child. It was through his older brother who met Galvao Jiu-Jitsu, since his brother was already training the gentle art.
Galvão began his BJJ training with 16 years with the teacher Luis Carlos Dagmar, better known as "Bald" illustrious student Master Osvaldo Alves. It was only the second year of training he would know the person who would become his real master and his inspiration, Fernando Tererê. Dagmar believed that his gym was too small for the talent Galvão and advised him to train with Tererê that was an excellent teacher and had other talented fighters Galvão level in your facility.
Under the guidance of Tererê André Galvão of Jiu-Jitsu had a huge evolution. André won four consecutive World Championships, the Blue Belt to Black Belt (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005), winning weight and absolute for two consecutive years, the purple belt and brown belt (2003 and 2004). Reached the final in 2006 and 2007 but failed to win. The other came again in 2008. That same year, André Galvão joined the world of MMA, getting a victory ending Jeremiah Metcalf, a former Strikeforce fighter, an organization to which the very Galvão would join months later.
In October 2008, Galvão joined with his friend Ramon Lemos to form a new Jiu-Jitsu team. The two have a strong gospel influence in their lives and brought their religious beliefs to the mat. All students had similar training and for that reason they decided to call the team "Acts", a direct reference to the "Book of Acts" (the fifth book of the New Testament). The team has had a huge success in the categories of black belt, with several wrestlers winning the World Championships, the Pan American and World Pro Jiu-Jitsu Cup in Abu Dhabi.
Having become a professional MMA fighter in 2008, Galvão fought in some of the largest global organizations such as the Dream (Japan) and Strikeforce (USA). Strikeforce left of his own accord, after a successful year (2010) in which fought three times, winning the first two and losing the last. He had plans to enter the TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) - as explained in an interview with BJJ Heroes in January 2010 - but that did not happen. Returned to BJJ competitions on 7 March, winning the World Pro triais Cup in San Diego in California (-83kg), also winning the Pan American a few weeks later - finishing all of his opponents, except for Eduardo Santoro in the final.
Continuously improving their level, Galvão was extraordinary in the 2011 ADCC, the most prestigious tournament in the world, reaching as much gold in weight as the absolute, proving why it is considered one of the best in the world.
