[Entrevista] Forever A Hooligan - Rocky Romero / [Interview] Forever The Hooligan - Rocky Romero. U5dI0Yp

9. Falaste no Davey.

Agora a sério, é giro.

Nos tempos do México estava no ringue e alguém no público gritava: "Rocky, you fucking son of Celia Cruz"! Desde então comecei a usar essa taunt e as pessoas chamavam-me "Azucar".

Resta-me desejar-te sorte no futuro, enquanto Rocky Romero e John Rivera.
RR: Muito obrigado. Boa sorte também para o teu futuro.

Who is Rocky Romero? Rocky Romero is a Cuban independent fighter of 31 years who currently stands in NJPW and ROH as half of Forever Hooligans (with Alex Koslov). Endowed with above average technical ability, Romero is already a few years keystone in NJPW since his time as Black Tiger IV.
Those who already know his work confirms its quality. Who does not know ... is losing one of the most magnificent workers of his generation.

Full interview:

Moore: First of all, thank you for accepting my interview. It's a pleasure.
Rocky: Now this. I'm always willing to give a word to the fans.

1 First, a compulsory question: do you remember when you started to feel a passion for wrestling?
RR: I remember. There was about six, seven years in height. I remember I saw the WWF Superstars every Saturday with my grandmother. She was a big fan and even vibrated with wrestling. That was how I discovered my passion for pro wrestling.

2 At the time, as a fan, what were your favorite wrestlers? Those who made you be a "mark", say?
RR: They were still a few, all of course WWF: Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Mr. Perfect, Rick Martel and Rick Rude were some of them and some of the guys from the "Golden Era".

3 Speaking of your training: did you get to be coached by legends of wrestling: Negro Casas, Togi Makabe and Antonio Inoki. In retrospect, as you remind this time?
RR: Well, in my opinion ... wrestling is an art. Can not be Picasso or Warhol, but it is an art and as such, never cease to learn, or to be trained by some of the winners wrestlers of his time. In general I enjoyed working with them but all have taught me one thing in particular: learn all styles and think outside of the ordinary, to become a product itself, unlike anything else.

4 Still on the train it was on the New Japan Dojo you've been trained by Inoki and Makabe. Can you describe us as there was the training?
RR: Being part of the New Japan Dojo in Los Angeles was a unique experience. You could enter the Dojo any day of the week where you were training with a legend, the Inoki wrestling or training with Frank Trigg (veteran UFC / Pride). I have plenty of memories of this place and all the coaches who developed me as a wrestler.

5 Even with 20 years started working in CMLL in what was your first "break". Tell us this when we started working on top of Mexican wrestling. You thought things could only become bigger to you?
RR: Working in Mexico at the time was excellent. I and the rest of Havana Brothers (I, Ricky Reyes, Bobby Quance and Manik TNA) at the time we were the group most "hot" from CMLL, in 2003 this was the time when I started to feel like a star and had the notion that it was only the beginning. Was determined to make me a star also in the USA and Japan.

6 After you came to ROH at the time the company was growing (2004) and you became champion teams with Ricky Reyes as part of Rottweilers (stable). How was it working with Homicide in height?
RR: It was very cool. All of us (Rottweilers) had a great respect for each other and the work of all. When I heard the idea of stable knew it would work. And it worked. Right at the beginning we had impact. The Homicide in a feud with Samoa Joe while I and the Ricky we won the titles. Already Low Ki was limited to the little ass that can be bad as well. A brilliant group.

7 Going to Japan: You were the fourth incarnation of Black Tiger. How you felt the work previously done by a character Mark Rocco, Silver King and of course Eddie Guerrero?
RR: It was an honor. Being in the same lineage of these fighters ... what can I say ... all had success, either as Black Tiger wants with his own characters. The gimmick does not make the fighter, the fighter makes the gimmick yes. But in this case, no doubt that the Black Tiger was a great moment in my career. And thank you for the opportunity to NJPW.

8 For some time you have been an important part of the IWGP Junior division, either solo or in a team. How you regard your current role as one of the key scene of the title tag Junior team and a member of CHAOS?
RR: I think the Forever Hooligans are a mainstay of the division. We're there as a tag team two years ago and has done a lot of teams in the division, just as he had done with Davey Richards. Would not mind a possible separation, to head to the Junior title solo. It would be a new challenge and that tells the challenges ... here I am.

9 You spoke in Davey. Worked with him in NJPW a team called No Remorse Corps. Now Davey in the USA are getting mainstream attention in TNA. How do you see his future?
RR: Oh ... Davey has an excellent future. It is one of the true workhorses in the world of wrestling, leaves skin in the ring and in the gym if necessary. No wonder I see him as a world champion, but for now he and Eddie are a great team. Both full of talent.

Have you work 10 long in Japan, the first NOAH now in NJPW. Your appearances in America are now almost one occasion. You see the fact that you evolved from rookie to special attraction?
RR: (laughs) It's like I'm Andre The Giant! Seriously, it's fun. Never had a great run in ROH for example, and perhaps never had the opportunity to show my potential solo. Maybe one day longer that special attraction and have a title shot, even by way of TV. Liked.

11. NJPW recently had two shows in the USA (with ROH) and recently got a contract with the international Ustream PPV. The personal and professional level as you see the possibility of expanding NJPW?
RR: Well, I think it is possible, even in a small and with the help of certain partners scale, such as ROH and GFW. Both are fantastic for this. So "normal" wrestling fans may know our roster and our work and see why NJPW to be the best company in the world.

12 About Your nickname: Why "Azucar"? Any particular story?
RR: "Azucar" means sugar in Spanish. And there was a Cuban salsa singer very famous, call Celia Cruz saying that in your songs as if to say "sweet" or "awesome" in English. In times of Mexico was in the ring and someone in the public shouted: "Rocky, you fucking son of Celia Cruz"! Gave me a click and shouted back: "Azuuuucar" while also made a gesture typical of her. The audience erupted! Since then I started using this taunt and people called me "Azucar".

13 Finally just asking your opinion on the issues, please. Nobody better to classify an interview that the interviewee.
RR: The questions were good and I give you kudos for that. Maybe you could have a little more depth but I understand. The basics are done well.

Moore: Well, thank you for lost time and the response capability. Wish you left me luck in the future, while Rocky Romero and John Rivera.
RR: Thank you. Good luck also for your future.
