Após a maior vitória de sua carreira no MMA, quando nocauteou o ex-campeão Ben Henderson, o brasileiro Rafael dos Anjos terá outra pedreira pela frente. Ele enfrentará Nate Diaz no dia 13 de dezembro, nos Estados Unidos. Em entrevista ao MMA Fighting, Rafael contou como recebeu a notícia de quem seria seu próximo oponente.

"Fiquei um pouco surpreso, mas ele é um lutador duro, que já lutou pelo título, tem um bom nome, então acho que é bom para mim".

Os dois atletas vêm de momentos bastante diferentes na carreira: enquanto Nate não luta desde novembro de 2013, quando nocauteou Gray Maynard, Rafael já entrou no octógono três vezes em 2014, tendo vencido sete de duas últimas oito lutas.

"Ele não luta há algum tempo e eu estou vindo de uma boa sequência. Será minha terceira luta em cinco meses e a quarta este ano, então acho que isso é uma vantagem para mim".

Oriundo do jiu jitsu, Rafael tem mostrado uma grande evolução em seu muay thai desde que passou a treinar com Rafael Cordeiro na Kings MMA. Hoje, o carioca se sente confortável para levar o duelo para onde achar melhor.

"Gosto de enfrentar oponentes mais altos do que eu, acho que é um confronto bom para mim. O estilo de luta dele não o ajuda, manter a guarda baixa é perigoso. Vou jogar minhas mãos duro nele. Vou para meu terceiro nocaute seguido. Vou trabalhar com muitos chutes, e ele não chuta muito. Também posso levar a luta para baixo e controlar por cima. Esse é o plano de jogo".

O brasileiro acha que nova vitória deverá colocá-lo como o próximo desafiante ao cinturão dos pesos leves, que será decidido entre o campeão Anthony Pettis e o desafiante Gilbert Melendez em dezembro.

"Espero que sim. Khabib está fora lesionado, Melendez está disputando o título e eu já venci o Cerrone. Alvarez chegou ao UFC agora e não faz sentido ele lutar pelo título se vencer o Cerrone. Acho que eu deveria ter o próximo title shot".
